I observed a cute moment in church today that I want to share. Jeff (preacher) had all the moms to stand up so the youth group could pass out flowers to them. Then while they were still standing, he read off a list of things that we are thankful for about our moms. One of the last things he read was, "We are thankful to our moms for showing us Jesus' love." A few pews in front of us is always occupied by a cute little white-haired couple who love each other and love God, very much. When Jeff read off that last one, the husband reached up and, oh so tenderly and affectionately, patted his wife and nodded his head in agreeance. I totally had a moment of "When I grow up, I want to be the kind of woman who merits a pat for having shown Jesus' love to my family and I want the kind of husband who encourages and appreciates that." Too precious!
This morning in Bible class with the girls, we looked at several passages in the Bible that describe the beauty that God wants to see in us as opposed to the superficial beauty that "the world" looks for. Proverbs 31 was one place that we looked and the reading was followed by some fun discussion of how each of us sees many of the qualities of the Proverbs 31 woman in our own moms...what a blessing!
I am so thankful for my Mom and how special she is! Somehow I got extra lucky though because I also have an incredible Nina and Mema. AND not only am I extremly thankful for my own Mom, Nina and Mema on this Mother's Day, I'm thankful for the many other women in my life who also set examples of living gracefully and kindly with a gentle and quiet spirit. (Maybe God has given me so many examples because I am SOOO slow on the uptake for that whole gentle and quiet thing! Haha)
Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
